ThermoKey partner of innovative projects

The Bologna Technopole will greatly increase the accuracy of weather forecasts thanks to its new data centre of the European Weather Center and a supercomputer, described as one of the most important high performance computing machines in the world.

The Neutral Beam Test Facility (NBTF) in Padua is fundamental for the construction of ITER, one of the most ambitious energy projects in the world, a magnetic fusion reactor designed to demonstrate the feasibility of nuclear fusion as a secure large-scale energy source free of carbon emissions and radioactive waste.

Refhyne is the largest PEM green hydrogen electrolyser in Europe and will play a key role in achieving the climate objectives of the European Green Deal, helping to decarbonise the most impactful sectors of industry and transport.

What do these three state-of-the-art systems have in common, each one of them being the expression of the maximum innovation for its reference sector?
They are ThermoKey cooling systems.

Our company continues to be selected in the partecipation of the most challenging projects, excellence destined to bring great changes and to leave its mark. We are very proud of these results, which are the fruit of our commitment, of our solid know-how , our decision to concentrate all production in Italy -in our headquarters, and the important technological investments we made in R&D.

Taking care of all the production phases and being able to count on nearby suppliers allows us to have control over product quality and to guarantee speed in delivery,these are the fundamental aspects in every market and especially in ours.

Namely/Indeed the results achieved confirm that we are moving in the right direction. We ended year 2022 with a turnover of 50 million euros, 80% of which generated abroad. And 2023 opened with an order book of 25 million euros. In the last 2 years we have grown by 43%, and the goal for this year is to grow by at least a further 20%.

Not only that, the company currently has 216 employees, the highest number since its foundation, with several open positions waiting to be filled.

Truly important numbers, which also derive from the participation in particularly prestigious projects:

The new Data centre of the European Weather Center (ECMWF – European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts), inside Bologna Technopole, with the new Atos BullSequana XH2000 supercomputer system, offers the possibility of significantly improving the forecasts of temperatures and winds and to make long-range forecasts daily, rather than bi-weekly. This is a fundamental step forward also from the point of view of prevention in the face of extreme weather events, considering the rapidly changing climatic conditions of the planet.

The Neutral Beam Test Facility (NBTF) in Padua is essential for the construction of ITER (International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor), one of the most ambitious energy projects in the world, whose goal is to achieve the first clean nuclear power plant.

ITER is implemented through a global science partnership of unprecedented scale, bringing together China, Europe, Japan, India, the Republic of Korea, the Russian Federation and the United States. In the context of the project, the Padua NBTF will guarantee the extreme temperature conditions (150 million degrees) necessary to ignite the fusion reactions to produce clean, sustainable and safe energy.

Refhyne is the largest PEM green hydrogen electrolyser in Europe. Built by Shell in its energy and chemical park in Germany, near Cologne, it will have a power of 10 MW and will be totally nourished by green energy produced by an offshore wind farm.

The project, developed by a European consortium to accelerate hydrogen production and help achieve the European goal of climate neutrality, will produce up to 1300 tons of green hydrogen per year.
